O Source of all that was and is to be,
In lab’ring pains of death and birth you bring
The throbbing, breathing world to life. We see
Your hand creating ever a new thing.
By quaking, flood and fire you shape the earth,
Its cool sweet valleys and each noble peak.
Through temptings, struggles, falls you forge our worth
And bring us toward the Oneness that we seek.
We journey on a wand’ring way unknown,
From dust to dust through joys and sorrows deep.
Yet must we turn from self, from hearts of stone,
And turning, to the path of Kindness keep.
Help us the former things not to recall:
Old ways of status, wealth and zealotry;
And let us make the Christ, your Love, our all,
Consid’ring all things else idolatry.
